Four set designs by Barry Kay for The Rake's Progress, acquired
by the Archive at a Melbourne auction sale of the estate of the
late Clifford Hocking MA in April 2007, reveal that Kay designed
this production. Although, the drawings are signed and dated, they
contain no further data as to the choreographer or director, the
venue and the location. Since Kay did not start working outside of
Australia before 1956, it is assumed that the designs concern an
Australian, possibly a Melbourne production. Without further
references, however, it cannot be determined whether they were
intended for the ballet or the opera, both of the same title.
